up to 144hz, you can use either hdmi 2.1 or dp 1.4 , there is no difference. what hdmi 2.1 brought over 2.0 was 4k 120hz HDR ( HDMI 2.0 was limited to 4k60p hdr); dp 1.4 was already able to achieve that, but you can't find dp in TV or consoles , hence the need for an upgraded hdmi version. hdmi 2.1 can go over 4k 120; it reaches even 10k120p
Yup. More specifically it is a cord with enough bandwidth to support the HDMI 2.0 spec. This is called a Premium High Speed HDMI cable, which has 18Gbps. For HDMI 2.1 there are Ultra High Speed HDMI cables with 48Gbps to take advantage of higher frame rates/resolutions HDMI 2.1 supports. 1.
The new ps5 will have hdmi 2.1 and my monitor only has hdmi 1.4 and display port 1.4. And now I want to connect the ps5 to my monitor and play with 1080p 144hz but hdmi 1.4 only supports 120hz. So now my question is if there are Hdmi 2.1 to display port 1.4 cables/adapters. No adapter needed. HDMI has always been downwards compatible.
Nope. 2.1 can handle 1080p 360hz. Compare the pixel clock to 4k 120hz (which hdmi 2.1 can do uncompressed) and you'll see hdmi 2.1 can handle even more than 360hz in 1080p. It just a matter of monitor manufacturer implementation. Most manufacturers won't implement higher refresh rates from hdmi port but it's totally possible.
HDMI 2.1 ports are essential for high-performance gaming, offering features like 4K at 120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM, which are not available in HDMI 1.4 or 2.0. Different HDMI ports offer varied capabilities; for example, HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60 Hz, while HDMI 2.1 supports up to 4K at 120 Hz and advanced gaming features.
The Bluray and AppleTV 4K are HDMI 2.0 devices so just leave them on the HDMI 2.0 ports and leave the PS5 on the HDMI 2.1 port. The AppleTV 4K 2022 model does have a HDMI 2.1 port but the sole feature it gets from this QMS is not supported by your Sony TV's HDMI 2.1 port so if you have this model just leave on the HDMI 2.0 port. 🛠.

Yes, 48gbps cables can be used in situations where low speed (virtually non-existent) and high speed cables would be the minimum requirement. ericson1998 • 2 yr. ago. Perfect, thank you guys.

Despite their similarities, though, there are some very real reasons you might choose to use DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1, so let’s take a look at the major differences between these two popular connection standards. From a pure bandwidth perspective, HDMI 2.1 offers far more. Where HDMI 2.1 offers a maximum bandwidth of 48 Gbps.
